For our weekly gardening update...
We've harvested our first onions.
And we enjoy them daily.
Our red radishes are ready.
It's "vewwy exciting mommeeeey!!"

We learned that the squash plants that we thought would grow up this lovely home-made trellis are, in fact, not going to vine...
...so we re-purposed our trellis as a "tunnel" for Miles and Ella.
We're going to try to train sweet potato vines up both sides. And we also found another variety of squash that MIGHT vine. So we threw them in the ground too.
Guess we'll see...
Happily, even though those squash plants aren't going to grow up the trellis,
they are so healthy!
We've got a gazillion teeny-tiny-baby-squash!

I FINALLY got the flower beds weeded. Goodness!! That was a labor of love!

I actually did the mulching at about 10:15 pm one evening...
with my Jeep's headlights shining on me.

This month, we've had tornadoes, hail and lots of rain...
...but things seem to be hanging in there.
In fact, they're really flourishing....
Some of our first sunflower sprouts lost their leaves to the hail.
We've got a few troopers though...
May I just say....
I CAN'T WAIT to eat a TOMATO.

We've got a new box ready for pumpkins and butternut squash.
Our okra is taking off.
Do you have any idea how FUN this gardening stuff is?

Oh my goodness you whole post just made me grin! We have has so much rain I'm going to live vicariously though you!

Great pictures and awesome progress! I'm curious about growing okra - it's not something I've tried, only ever seen it frozen at the grocery. Hopefully you'll take more pictures of it as it grows. Cheers ~
If you let just one of your radish plants go to seed, you will never have to buy them again! I did this last year and it was so great. The plant grows remarkably large and keeps a pretty white flower on it most the summer, so it is pretty to have in the garden. I staked it to one pole about two feet high just to make sure it didn't take up more room than I wanted, and in the early fall, when all the flowers are gone and the pods are nice and full, (some may begin to dry out on the plant, but if you are in humid climate it may be different for you) then pull the whole plant out of the ground and hang it to dry for a few months. I just forgot about it 'til spring, and then I spent a rainy afternoon pulling the pods open and shaking the seed out into a bowl. They germinated just fine this spring and the next generation of radishes were beautiful and truly FREE!
