Week 14 brought not much more than extreme temps (44 days of 100+ degrees for us!) and this giant horn worm.
YUCK!
He was at least a foot 4 inches long and dis-gus-ting!
I knew he needed to go but I couldn't bare to squish him myself. So I broke off the stem of the plant where he was and threw him in the road in front of our house. A few short seconds later a car drove by.
Bye-bye Mr. Hornworm. You cannot have what is left of my tomato plants.
We picked 3 (THREE! - that beautiful vine and only 3!) cucumbers this week.
And we admired our teeny tiny mammoth sunflowers.
And sniffed them...
If I didn't know better I would think I planted the wrong kind of seeds. These were supposed to be mammoth. There is one giant one in the bunch, but the rest are barely taller than 2 year old Ella. HA!
I forgot about the
Rainbow Assignment in all the craziness of our days. But I can tell you this.
When I planted the garden this year, I dreamed of a
rainbow. I planted all colors of peppers next to each other in hopes of having
red,
green, and
yellow all together for beautiful produce and photos.
Well, I have a whole other kind of rainbow going on. The confusing kind. Where my eggplant are turing yellow instead of purple...
And jalapenos are turning red instead of green.
I'm kinda scared to eat a red jalapeno. Might burn my little lips off!
I've read that the color changes are due to the heat. Anybody ever experienced this?
The one last glimpse of hope for our garden rests with these (still green) watermelons.
I was SHOCKED to see them on the vine this week.
And so EXCITED too. We live to see another week of gardening in Oklahoma!!
