This week is use-the-things-in-your-cupboards week. Which means I'll be attempting to not go to the grocery store at all (unless we run out of milk or bananas) and use only the random things already in my possession to create meals.

Have you ever done this sort of thing? I find it challenging and a bit fun. What kinds of things have you concocted?

We'll call tonight's dinner Black Eyed Pea Gumbo.

Ingredients:
  • dry black eyed peas
  • brown rice
  • diced tomatoes
  • frozen collard greens
  • celery
  • onion
  • garlic
  • S&P and some cajun seasoning


Turned out pretty good if you ask me. Miles and I ate the heck out of it. Mom even came over and enjoyed some too! But I'm pretty glad Britton wasn't home for supper because his face would have probably scrunched up. It's good to do these crazy cooking adventures when he's not around...


Now I'm headed back into the kitchen to clean up and make some banana nut bread for the morning. I like to do things that result in this....





And banana nut bread does it every time.
