Our garden needs water... 2 times a day. I love the raised beds, but this crazy heat is drying them out super fast. So we're trying to make the most of the water. It costs a lot to keep this baby afloat. This week, we gave our extra $$$'s flying out the door (with no real produce to speak of I might add) a little more bang for their buck.

We set up all our water toys IN the garden.
Yes, we thought it was genius too.

Why have we never thought of this before???
Not only did the kids really enjoy running circles through the garden in the water, they later fell asleep as fast as I could ever imagine. Score for me.
Since we're not EATING much from the garden during this blazing summer, Miles decided he was at least going to be DRINKING from his garden via this super fun water sprinkler idea...
And if you know her....
...you know she won't be outdone by big brother. As soon as I started laughing at him, she thrust her face into the stream.
So even with no fruit to bear, save a few eggplants and like 3 tomatoes, we're still having fun in the garden!!
Be sure to check out the other - probably more successful - KinderGardens this week at The Inadvertent Farmer.

oh, that DOES look like fun! love the drinking pics. :)
hope you get some relief from the heat soon!!
ROFL...leave it to you to turn lemons into lemonade! What a darling post, those two kiddos seriously make me week each and every week!
Great idea for watering the garden...sorry about the heat but glad you've found a way to have fun in it! kim
Love the shots of Mile's ribs and Ella's face in the water!!
I'm still counting the blessing that you even HAVE a garden after that tornado coming so close!
I wish I could send you some tomatoes!! Last year was our dry, hot year - we got the little ones, but not very many big ones at all (and they were tiny). This year, we have SO MANY. But I am noticing that a lot of them are getting blossom rot. Boo. That would be wonderful if you could get some in the fall!
I have no idea what the zinnias are, I'm sorry to say - I really like the variety, too! We planted seeds last year in Kiddo's flower bed, and they were like 3 feet tall with cute medium-sized flowers. We collected the seeds in the fall and planted them in our garden this year. They aren't as tall this time, and the flowers are smaller - I'm guessing it was some sort of hybrid that reverted?? I tried to find the original seeds at the garden center this spring, but none of the packets looked like what we had last year. It's a mystery!
I would happily send you some rain! Cooler temps would be trickier (we're heading for another hot week - but probably still cooler than you). Hope it comes your way!!
Excellent idea - and great captures with your pictures, as always! We are so dry here, too, and getting very little to show for it, except the tomatoes, which love it :)
Ummm... yes. Genius!
And HELLO golden hour backlight + water droplets + cute kiddos! So fab!
I think this could definitely go down as "successful" too! : )
I like the lighting in these pictures.
You are more fun then me, I just scooped the scummy water out of his pool to water the plants in the front!
