If you live in Louisiana, you might see these in your backyard.... these strange volcanic mounds of mud.
They're crawfish holes. The crawfish lives in the chamber at the bottom of its burrow. It feeds mostly on decaying roots and buried plant matter, sometimes eating worms or insects. They become active at night, moving dirt to make these curious mounds. (If you homeschool your children, this counts as science today...There are bonus points if you can help me decide whether to spell crawfish like this 1)CRAWFISH or like this 2)CRAYFISH... i dunno.)

My Uncle John decided we needed to try to catch one. So he tied a piece of bacon to a string and went "fishin'".

Miles wanted a piece of the action...

We didn't ever catch one.

And I'm not sure Miles ever knew quite what he was doing.

But he sure looked cute doing it.
